DNF at 149 pages. I gave this book more than enough. But at this point, I just. Don’t. Care.

It’s like Harry Potter and City of Bones had a disfigured baby. This book is just not my thing. I don’t like the choppy writing style nor the slamming of the world into our heads. We are supposed to be learning with the FMC but she is DUMB.

Why does she, after being told that her and her mom left the family bc of her powers, GO back to her grandma???? Why does she not realize that she’s cultivating her dark powers??? This girl is an idiot. She makes dumb decisions and I just can’t deal with her anymore.

Jordan? Ugh. He’s supposed to be brooding but he’s this weird…. I don’t even know. I can’t get behind those two together. Their relationship at this point was just nothing. He requested to be her mentor because……. ? She is powerful? 🤷‍♀️ whatevs.

Anyway, ultimately I see nothing new here and it’s just a rehash of same old same old in YA fantasy:

FMC:
Not like other girls? Check.
Masters magic other people have been working years on? Check.
Makes dumb choices? Check.

MMC:
Broody hero with woodsy scent? Check.
Chiseled jaw? Check.
Criminally beautiful? Check.
Eyes like a sea on an overcast day? Check.
He likes books? Check.

Maybe this will appeal to some people but I’ve read better ya fantasies with better writing so no thanks, I’ll pass.
