Thank you to Razorbill and BookishFirst for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

House of Marionne by J. Elle is a YA fantasy set in a high-society meets magic world. The story revolves around Quell, who has lived her life on the run with her mother. But now that their lives are in danger, Quell makes the decision to turn to her grandmother, who will only accept her if she debuts in the Order, a magical society with three high-stakes initiation tests. Can Quell look to the power within and master what it takes to debut? Or will she end up with nothing?

Here is an exciting excerpt from Chapter 1:

"I’m still grasping for my next breath when Mom tosses me one of those
cheap disposable hand warmers and my rice pack. We keep one in the car
and two at the motel. My toushana has worn off but the throbbing ache
that comes before and after lingers. Those people. They used magic. They
killed a man!
“What happened?” She eyes her duffel bag on the back seat and white
knuckles the steering wheel. Creases hug her eyes. Her pulled-back hair
has grayed in spots, like threads of silver in a bushel of black wheat.
Memories are buried in the folds of her skin, mysteries I’d give anything
to understand. Like why I have magic and she doesn’t? Who are we running from?"

Overall, House of Marionne is an amazing YA fantasy that will appeal to fans of Harry Potter and Shadow and Bone. One highlight of this book is the heart-pounding action that never lets up. Another highlight of this book is the enemies-to-lovers romance. One final highlight is the high society plus magic atmosphere, which is definitely fun to read about. I would love to live in the world of this book. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of YA fantasy in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in August!
