This story seems like EXACTLY the type of thing I would have gone for when the literary world was full of magical stories involving otherworld elites (see e.g. The Selection Series).
It's been a while, but this story seems like a perfect re-boot for that old beloved genre, complete with a heroine we can hesitantly love. Quell is perfectly nuanced and the tropes of Dark Academia will scratch an itch for even an older YA reader. Plus, the cover is gorgeous! This seems like it'll be a nostalgic, but engrossing read!
