First of all, I must explain how I rate books. I rate books purely on how much I enjoyed reading it and how hooked I was into the story. That being said, I rated this 4 stars because I was hooked almost right from the start and read almost the whole book in one sitting. However, once I put the book down to do something else, I didn’t find myself NEEDING to continue reading. I didn’t feel connected to the main character quite enough to be nervous for her well-being and scared for what will happen next in her story.
SPOILERS UP AHEAD! Likewise, when Tyler died, I didn’t feel an ought of a connection to him to really care that he died. If I do not cry at least a little in the aftermath of a characters death, than in my opinion it was not a well-written death. This is because even when I don’t care all that much about a character, seeing how the main character reacts to their death is usually enough to bring on the tears, but my lack of connection to the main character made me think “oh, ok” when he died.
However, the ending of the book was amazing! It left me wanting so much more and left me able to stay in my own head for quite a while imagining what could possibly happen next, even knowing that it is most likely a standalone novel. He writing style was beautiful and altogether the story was super well-written.
