Let me start by saying that this book deserves a million stars solely for the cover because WOW. I am also a sucker for a powerful opening line and this book did not disappoint. The prologue starts with “I was ten years old the first time I realized I was strange” and then continues on to leave the reader hooked and craving more. Once I finished the prologue, I immediately went to grab my tabs so I would have them ready to mark the lines and passages that struck me; there were a lot of them. Sutherland’s writing is intoxicatingly haunting and does not let up through the very end.

Furthermore, the CHARACTERS. The personalities of these characters are expertly written. I loved the mystery and intrigue surrounding the Hollow sisters. I also loved Tyler Yang; he reminded me a lot of Steve Harrington from Stranger Things. In fact, I got several Stranger Things vibes from the book which makes sense because I absolutely love Stranger Things AND this book.

Lastly, this book is DARK. This is some twisted, haunting, eerie, atmospheric writing and plot line. People said it went dark and they were not exaggerating. I devoured every single page.
