This book had me sold by the cover alone. It’s brilliant: haunting eyes, the flowers, the subtle bugs. I knew I needed to read it.

At first, it feels very fluffy. It’s obvious that it’s a young adult book, but one of those more adult acting young adult books with mention of lots of drug and alcohol use (which doesn’t bother me, but it’s there) Then we start to really get into the book. It is an absolutely crazy ride. It’s very fantasy, with a bit of magical realism combined.

There are some dark things that happen in this book. That is undeniable. However, I think how it was written, these dark things are easily tolerated compared to some adult thrillers and such. This could be due to the more fantastical atmosphere of the book, knowing it was something so impossible to actually happen gave peace of mind.

Great book for those that enjoy dark thrillers as well as fantasy. You definitely don’t have to be a fantasy reader to like this one (isn’t fantasy such an off love it or hate it genre?)
