This has to be one of my favorite books of 2023 so far. The cover alone was a reason to get this book, I am glad I chose this as a read. I feel that there was such great atmosphere in this book. It started off a little slow but I was hooked from the very first page. It felt like a dream; it wasn’t a nightmare but was still so unsettling. I thought it had such great writing and the descriptions and detail were so good I could almost smell the rot Iris talked about frequently. I had an idea of what was happening early on but it didn’t detract from the great story telling. The mystery of what happened to the sisters was eerie and there was such a tense feeling of dread throughout the book.
My favorite excerpt from the book gives me goosebumps: “ What if, in the story Grey tells about what happened to us, we were not the three little girls?” I said. I met Tyler’s eyes. “What if we were the monsters?”
I will be buying a physical copy and reading it again. And I highly recommend if you like your horror more on the tense, unsettling side.
