This YA novel is a well-written story penned by a young and talented writer. The story revolves around the mysterious Hollow sisters, all of whom disappeared when they were children and suddenly returned one month later. No one knows what happened to them or how. The protagonist, the younger sister, Iris, has no memory of what happened to her. As we follow her story, we discover the unsettling and somewhat horrifying truth. Believe me when I say that it will not be what you expect.
I enjoyed reading the book from the perspective of Iris. As a reader, you find yourself trusting her and wanting to discover the truth just as badly as she wants to. I theorized throughout the story about what the ending could be but Sutherland's masterful writing constantly left me in suspense, wondering what could happen next.
