Were you ever afraid of the "boogeyman" as a child? Constantly checking under your bed, behind your closet door, or refusing to venture into the basement? What if there was an entity so terrifying that the boogeyman was afraid of it and what if that entity was you?

The Scoop
Ten years ago the three little Hollow girls disappeared out of thin air. A month later they reappear with no recollection of what happened, their appearances changed, and developing mysterious magical abilities. Iris is now 17 and trying to live a normal teenage life but is aware of the strange things that happen around her sisters and herself. When her oldest sister, Grey, goes missing again Iris has to dig into her past to ultimately save Grey.

My Thoughts
I should have read this close to Halloween because wow...this novel is terrifying! Bone-chilling most likely will give you nightmares. It does make a good read for June pride month due to the LGBT representation within the characters. House of Hollow is fantasy, horror, dark fairy tale, and mystery wrapped into a lovely whimsical but gory book.

With trigger warnings such as kidnap, alcohol use, attempted murder, attempted sexual assault, blood, body horror, death, drug use, gore, murder, self-harm, suicide mentioned, and violence I'm surprised it is categorized as a young adult book.

I did enjoy the ride with Iris in this book and being slowly drip-fed hints and questioning who dun it. I am unsure if Krystal Sutherland has any plans for a second follow-up book but I was left with questions at the end.
