This first glimpse is positively creepy in all the best ways. I'm always a fan of writer that can yo-yo from subtle to overtly chilling within the same sentence: "I was awake the whole time, tracking her in the dark" is the sentence that does it for me. The way the author plays to the fears one's mind creates reminds me very much of Shirley Jacksons Haunting of Hill House- yet there is a very clear paranormal element that I'm dying to understand- The Hallow sisters are screamingly some sort of supernatural predators with very enchanting glamours. The way we are lead by Iris, youngest's Hallow sister, through story's opening leaves me cautious yet willingly to ignore all signs of danger for a satisfying and carefully constructed scare.
