Thanks to BookishFirst for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. The cover was what initially drew me to this book but the rich storytelling was what drew me into the world Emily has created. The story starts as Jani and her younger sister Zosa are interviewing for positions within the Hotel Magnifique. When Zosa gets a positions, Jani refuses to let her younger sister go without her, as the hotel is only in a city for 24 hours before moving onward. Jani befriends Bel and her world is literally flipped upside down. She soon discovers there’s more to the hotel then what meets the eye, especially secrets that are kept within the walls and employees. The story draws the reader in deeper with each page turned. Secrets are discovered and Jani continues to get over her head, until she has an enlightening conversation with Celeste and at that point, everything comes to a turning point. I absolutely loved this story. I think Bel, despise his own secrets, is my favorite character along with Béatrice. If you’re looking for a magical book to get lost in and travel to new places, don’t look much father than this one!
