This was quite a magical read! The author does a great job of creating an elaborate, and fantastically magical environment for this adventure to take place.

In this story you follow 17 year old Jani. After her mother dies she is left to care for her 13 year old sister, Zosa. Their financial struggle is dire, so when she hears that the legendary Hotel Magnifique is hiring, they apply for positions. The hotel only shows up for one day every 10 years, so they have to act fast. Once they are a part of the hotel staff, Jani discovers that something mysterious and sinister surrounds the hotel’s magic.

I really enjoyed the majority of this book. I feel that the beginning was very strong, but then it got a little slow before it picked up again. The second half of the book definitely holds a lot more action. This book has a little bit of everything as it contains magic, romance, and dark twists and turns.

I feel I would have enjoyed this one more if I hadn’t recently read Caraval, as there were quite a few similarities.

What I liked:
🔹The world building
🔹Bel’s character, as I found him rather interesting and I wish he would have had a more prominent role
🔹The descriptive writing surrounding the magic and the hotel

What I didn’t like:
🔹Some parts felt repetitive
🔹I felt the ending wrapped up too quickly

If you are a fan of The Night Circus or Caraval you might want to check this one out.
