I loved this book. It was magical and whimsical, but had very sinister elements. It reminded me of Caraval, but more sinister. The hotel and magic were really fun and cool. The more the story goes the darker it gets and it it was such a fun ride. I loved the magic of the hotel and the mystery you are trying to unravel as you go. The idea of signing your memories away was really scary to consider. The main summinaire storyline was a little strange/intriguing. It was sad but an odd twist to the story. I think I guessed one of the twists but this book was such a fast paced adventure with high stakes and danger lurking around every turn that it was a lot of fun. I’m a little sad it’s a standalone, but it was done well. I kind of wish there was more of the story just because I didn’t want it to end. The magic was more soft than a hard system but it fit the overall feel of the book and it depending on the artifacts each person was able to use.
