I'm a sucker for this kind of storyline and this had all the makings for a phenomenal story, mystery, magicians, magical moving hotel...and it hit the mark for some aspects but not quite all.
The storyline could have used some editing as there was a whole lot going on and it took awhile to follow. The magic was amazing but again, needed some editing as there was so much happening that I sometimes felt really lost.
I love a good villain and I really do think this book delivered and the main character's fight against the villain worked into the storyline well.

I really like the side characters, in fact, I think I like them better than our protagonist. They definitely all had well thought out personalities.

I think that if this book was split into a duology to allow the author extra pages to flush out everything it would have been a five star read.

I'm not always a fan of comparisons to other books but I do feel if you like the Caraval series, this book is on that vein and well worth the read.
