While this is YA Fantasy, the dark and moody vibes run throughout the pages. Even though the comparisons of YA books to Caraval is overused often, it truly does fit this book, and if you walked in with that expectation, you wouldn’t be disappointed.

While I loved the ride that this quirky magical hotel that shows up for two days every ten years took me on, toward the end I found some of the plot devices clunky. There were lots of “revelations” that felt a bit too much of an overstep and a bit overwhelming as a reader.

It would be good to check triggers prior to reading this. It was never heavy or overly descriptive, but there are themes of and mentions of enslavement, threats of violence, murder, drugging, loss, loss of a loved one, and violence.

Overall, this was a highly enjoyable and whimsical read that I would recommend to anyone look for a dark and moody light fantasy.
