A Great YA Fantasy
This book is everything I wanted Caraval to be. It has the same magical ambiance, but in my opinion is better written. I enjoyed the characters and the relationships between them. Originally gave this book 3.5⭐. Upon further reflection, that may be a slightly unfair rating, just because I am easily annoyed by certain things that are common in YA - naïve characters, less complex world building etc. 15-17 year old me probably would've given this one 5⭐.
The premise of a fantastical traveling hotel full of magical wonders is an amazing world in which to tell a story. There are so many secrets to uncover and everything is vividly described. The twists and turns are well done and the pacing is perfect to keep readers engaged. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and recommend it to any YA readers, particularly those who loved Caraval and are looking for similar books to pick up.
