The book, Hotel Magnifique, is a fantastical, magical journey to Elsewhere! It tells the story of a sisters' love, a longing for belonging, a need to experience the world and finding home where your heart is. The plot was interesting and the scenes were descriptive, which kept me intrigued. The characters, however, were surprisingly, usually only described by their skin color/condition ("bronze", "pale", "copper", "unblemished) or body shape as defining characteristics, especially early in the book. It was refreshing to portray such diversity, but became monotonous when that is the only way the characters or crowds were described. Later, there was more descriptions of fantastical hair color or fashion or eye colors, but it would have been nice to have a clearer, more descriptive vision of the individual characters earlier in the story. The magic described was inventive and fascinating, but considering that the hotel travelled nightly to fantastical places, I had hoped for a bit more world building and interaction. Although it was slow in a few places and sometimes repetitive, the story kept me reading and the ending satisfyingly described the characters' futures.
