That prologue really knows how to suck a reader in. A courier being tasked with delivering a young boy to some dark alley that's filled with a magically appearing and disappearing hotel at midnight really set the atmosphere for me. And then, meeting the main character, Jani, and her young sister, Zosa, already I love their dynamic. I especially loved the moment where Zosa scrunches up her nose at the idea of getting a job, and Jani flicking it just because. I'm a younger sibling, but we don't have that kind of relationship. I don't know if pushing Zosa to apply to the Hotel Magnifique is a good idea, but I imagine that Jani will soon regret it in due time.
