I’ve always enjoyed unexpected magical stories (i.e. the night circus, etc.). There’s something about an event or place that pops up out of nowhere within a story that allows the reader to have hope that magic could occur for them as well.

The same goes for characters that are essentially coming from nothing - poverty, a boring background, talentless, etc.

These traits in a magical story give the reader hope for a magical story of their own. This is exactly what “Hotel Magnifique” has done for me. Only a few chapters in, and I’m fully invested in this story of two sisters who are coming from nothing - one with talent, the other with none - thrown into a completely magical world.

The other part of this book that intrigues me is the dark undertones of the book. Signing a contract with blood and magical ink does not scream “ethical,” so you know there is something occurring within this hotel that is dark and ominous.

I look forward to continuing to read more about the journey of these two sisters, and the magical hotel they are now contractually bound to!
