Honey tells the story of popstar Amber Young and her rocky rise to fame. This was a fun and buzzy look back at early 2000's pop culture and popstardom.

Although I lived through the early 2000's, I was very young and recall very little of it, so I really enjoyed how this examined the life of fictional popstars akin to Britney and Christina through a modern lens. It seems absolutely wild that teenagers and young women were just thrown to the media circus with hardly a care for their mental and emotional wellbeing. Every moment of Amber's life is in the spotlight, and I liked seeing her grow into herself and learn to stand her ground. Despite the media consistently pitting them against each other, Savannah, Gwen, and Amber have no ill will towards one another, with the latter two becoming best friends. I really liked how bits of media like interview transcripts and annotated lyrics are interspersed throughout the book. It makes the whole world feel so real and fun.
