This book is a great example of what was going on in the industry in the late '90s. The main character, Amber Young, spends her time growing up while trying to find her place in a new era of big group bands that were coming out in this time frame. The story followed Amber through the ups and downs of trying to make it in a time where she was one of many. The struggles of finding her own voice in what she wanted and what she needed to get to her end goal. The shame of what everyone around her believed and labeled her to be versus who she was and what she ended up becoming because of what she was told she appeared to be. Trying to find any kind of relationship, be it a love interest or best friend as well as having no real connection to family.

Amber grew up and faced her struggles in the same time frame as I was the same age, I remember hearing about and reading stories about pop stars going through the same choices as she had to make. This story brings another side of what people, especially young teenage girls, were fighting against to make a place for themselves in their industry.
