Honey is a fantastic story about the rise of a pop star named Amber Young. It is set in the 1990s and is a coming-of-age story of sorts. Amber makes a break and joins a pop girl group called Cloud9. As you imagine, there was a lot one had to give up to be a pop star in the 90s. It is not all she bargained for. If you grew up in that era you remember how female pop stars were objectified as compared to their male counterparts. And that is one of the issues the book covers. Men were and still are treated much differently than females in the same profession. It is a setting ripe with misogyny. The story reads very much like a memoir and it is hard to believe the characters are not real. The author really has a knack for telling a story and it comes through in Honey. The writing style hooks you and this is one of those fabulous reads that is very hard to put down. I look forward to reading more by this author.
