My first look of Honey brought up so many memories of my pre-teen and teenage years (the late 1990s and early 2000s). Right off the bat, I felt as if I were Amber experiencing the pressures of being from a single-parent family (which was not the norm back then), being less wealthy than her peers, and falling into the pressure of wanting to be liked and accepted that she was willing to give up pieces of her own identity. Honey appears to be about Amber's journey of becoming someone for everyone else, but not the person she needs to be for herself as she falls into the high of performing and the Hollywood scene.

The cover of Honey is an ode to the ways we used to listen to music in the late 1990s/early 2000s - CDs. It's an ode to music and popularity, and the pink background is an ode to the girl group Honey auditions for. I also really appreciate the font of the title as it is a subtle nod to the fonts of popular girl band albums from the time period where Honey takes place.

Honey will shed such a light on what some of our favorite teen sensations went through as they hit celebrity status and what they had to do to get there.
