First, I really loved the cover and its symbolism to Mikel's dad and the memories of him. It was really special. Secondly, I love the way this memoir was written; it aged as Mikel did and I thought that was a phenomenal way of telling his story - it hit deeper then it would have if he had written from the adult point of view the whole time. We as children have such a limited understanding of the world and are so innocent and it reminded me of being a child and how you thought about the world. But wow, I really loved this memoir. Why? I also have a narcissistic mother, just like Mikel does. And it broke my heart, because I related so deeply to Mikel, as a child and as an adult, and I longed for him to realize it wasn't his fault the whole book. It took me a long time to heal and realize that I wasn't the problem, that I hadn't done anything wrong, just like Mikel. It's an incredibly hard road to travel, having a narcissistic parent, because they will never change and listen or understand, and it's a lonely road. But luckily, Mikel and I both found peace and healed. This was wonderful.
