Well, Hollywood Park is the memoir I didn’t know I needed, but I did. Mikel Jollett is such a magnificent story teller with a true story to tell. His life begins in ways most of us can’t imagine—living in a cult. He didn’t understand what a family was or really what a mother was. But, following him throughout his childhood and then into adulthood, it’s so amazing to see the relationships he builds and the way he grew. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts, cringe at others (the rabbits?!?), and crying at many (I won’t give those away). Mikel Jollett’s voice is incredible too. The way his writing grows and ages as he does, it really makes you feel line he has written it throughout his life. This is a book to not be missed.
