I will be the first to admit: memoirs are not really my jam. This one changed that.

Escaping from a cult in his early childhood, Mikel Jollett's memoir Hollywood Park is a raw, heartbreaking, and incredibly moving story filled with adversity and abuse. It's also about unconditional love, fierce family bonds, and the struggle to find a place to fit in.

Frontman of one if my favorite bands, The Airborne Toxic Event, I was delighted to learn he had written a memoir. I was absolutely floored to learn of his tumultuous early life. And that is just the start of it.This memoir reads so much like a novel that I had to remind myself that it is somebody's actual life story. The hype of this memoir is real and well deserved.
