Just Okay, a little too long
Mikel is a natural story teller. Although I found portions of the book to be a bit long winded, I enjoyed listening to him tell his story (I preferred listening to the audiobook verses reading the physical book).
Mikel’s story is one of a child who had to grow up too fast and face conditions children should not be exposed to. It is also a story of family, both the lack there of, and what it means to create your own family. It is also a coming of age story- a story of finding your identity and navigating the world under trying circumstances.
Hollywood Park is not a light read, but it is eye opening and an interesting glimpse into a lifestyle that I knew nothing about.
I recommend this book if you are looking for a memoir about a person overcoming adversity.
