This was a very interesting memoir! Pretty light on the cult aspect, but I wasn't expecting it in the first place so it was still shocking. The way Mikel had to deal with his mother was something else. That woman needs a lot of help and not from her son. This was a story of neglect, the pressures of drugs/alcohol, mental health, learning boundaries and so much more. I loved that music was always a solace for Mikel even if it wasn't his first love. This story had a lot of feels. Glad I read it!
I had no idea who this person was, but apparently he's sorta famous? It was interesting to get this glimpse into the behind the scenes of the music industry: especially on both sides as a reporter/music fan and as a musician. The cult aspect of their life was pretty short, I didn't really understand what the cult was about, but it clearly left an impact on Mikel and his family.
