From the beginning of the book to the last pages, “Hollywood Park” was beautifully written throughout. As a memoir, it almost felt surreal. There were times where I was stunned that these events were truly happening to the author. The love and respect Mikel Jollett feels for his father is apparent throughout the book. For someone who has faced such adversity with being born in a cult, constantly rotating parental figures and a mother who cares more for herself than for her children, Jollett has truly been able to make a name for himself.

One of the best parts about the way it is written is that in each portion of his life the language changes. When he was a child, some of the words used reflect what he understood. You could feel the maturity growing in Jollett as he got older.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it in one day as I literally could not put it down. I needed to know what happened next. Jollett did an amazing job writing this book and really roping the reader into being part of his family experience. I can’t recommend this book enough!
