Mikel Jollett wrote an incredible memoir about his time in a commune which morphed into a cult. He spent his first six years in an orphanage and escaped with his mother and brother. His childhood was full of poverty, emotional abuse, an estranged mother and his father was addicted to drugs and an ex-con, and always the presence of drugs and alcohol by his immediate family members. His journey is truly incredible and he surpassed so much strive and hardship in his life. His personal relationships were so interesting to hear how he self damaged and his growth and discovery. His relationships with his parents and his brother have been a long journey but he is so honest and reflective of where they are now and where he hopes they go. I read this on audio and it is narrated by the author - incredible read and I loved his music tied in.
