Hollywood Park is a profoundly personal memoir about Mikel Jollett who escaped a cult in California when he was young.

The story is told through the eyes of an innocent child who is trying to adapt to life outside of what he was taught to know. As the story progresses so does the voice of the narrator, making it feel as if you are on this journey alongside Mikel.

This book is shocking. So much has happened to his family before he was even 12. I had to take a step back and really think about what he was saying and remind myself of this.

This story is more about life after the cult (or the c-u-l-t as he calls it) rather than life in the cult, since he was so young when they left. Tough topics like addiction, family, acceptance, loss and strength are covered in this tale of Mikel Jollett’s life. ⁣

I think a good book, especially non-fiction and memoirs, opens your eyes to a life different than your own and helps you realize how different everyone’s journey in this life is. And that’s exactly what Hollywood Park did.

As an added bonus to the audiobook, original music from the Airborne Toxic Event album “Hollywood Park” is sprinkled into the story 🎶
