I tend to be picky when I read memoirs and nonfiction books because I tend to enjoy fiction a lot more, however, I was recommended this book from a friend and I really enjoyed it.
Only reason why it is not a 5 star is because it took me awhile to get into the story. I felt like the writing style took me a bit longer to get used to but once I did, I was instantly hooked.
This takes place in California and it is such a beautifully written story of Mikel Jollett. My favorite nonfiction so far is A Promised Land, but this one was so good. I cried at times because it was so beautiful.
The sections where a child is saying it was so breathtaking. I felt so attached to him and really connected with his story. I felt the need to give him a big hug and show some compassion.
I think you should read this! It is such an unforgettable and lovable story!
