First off I must admit I have never even heard of Mikel Jollett, or his Indie rock band, Airborne Toxic Event, until I picked up this book and I'm actually kinda glad I went into the story blind and not knowing anything because I feel it made it more interesting to me and more appreciative of my feelings towards it
Hollywood Park is a beautifully written story that takes us on a journey thru Mikel's life in a commune with his family until the present day. I read his story pure awestruck at the things he's lived thru including poverty and all kinds of disturbing abuses and know that I doubt I could have ever survived all the things he has. It made me truly understand how I had overlooked even the more simpler things in my life and made me appreciate them more.
