Memoirs are not typically my thing, except in cases where I'm already familiar with the person writing the book. While I do think this could be an incredibly moving coming-of-age story, it's just not something I'm gravitating towards. Looks like again I'm in the minority here, so I definitely think if the synopsis catches your attention you should pick it up, I just probably won't be.
