I have read my share of horror books, Stephen King being my favorite horror genre author, so 'Holly Horror' wasn't a totally unprecedented read for me. I generally embrace YA books as eagerly as adult novels so that designation isn't unusual for me either. I am not one to feel afraid as I read a scary scene or even one to think repeatedly of a horror story once it's finished. However both of the last two nights I was finishing this novel, I went to bed and immediately had very scary dreams. Apparently on some subconscious level this book impacted me more than most horror books. Evie's storyline was good and kept me interested. I like it when there aren't too many confusing characters and the timeline is fairly straightforward and this novel met both of those criteria. That 'Holly Horror' incorporated both a favorite childhood song, 'Playmate Come Out and Play With Me' and a favorite childhood icon, Holly Hobby, also drew me to this novel. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it as a 4 Star read with the caveat that it is pretty scary. Thanks to Penguin Random House and Bookish First for getting this Advance Readers Copy in my hands.
