I think this book will appeal to an age range of readers that is typically hard to peg with scary books. So much horror is either very clearly aimed at a young audience, like Goosebumps, or at a much older YA audience. This is for that age group right in the middle. The vibe is very creepy, and I like the tie-in between the house's history, the family relationships, and the mystery of what happened to the missing girls. And I can never resist the creepy doll that seems to make an appearance in every book of this type. The attic, the childhood song that you don't realize is creepy until a book like this shows you why...it's got all the things you need for that perfect balance between totally spooked out but not gory graphic up-all-night replaying it in your mind horror. The artwork on the cover is the icing on the cake--it's gotta be the kind of thing that makes you just a little scared to walk past your bookshelf in the middle of the night.
