A win for YA Horror
I really enjoyed this YA horror. Heavy on the YA. Can someone be scared by some scenes? Sure. I simply wasn't. I can see my teenager being spooked by some of it though (and he's the intended audience so that's a win).
Evie has to move from NYC to a small town in Massachusetts because of her parents divorce. Already a big change for a teenager...but they move into family house that's been sitting vacant for many, many years after a relative disappeared. And it being a small town everyone knows about the house and the new girl that just moved in. Between that attention, the tension in between her mom and brother, liking a boy that she was warned to stay away from and the shadow that keeps following her, Evie has a lot to deal with.
Even if this wasn't going to be a series, this book ended like a horror should. With a twist. Some may be mad at the cliffhanger ending..but if you truly read or watch horror you know that most of them leave you with a little something extra at the end. This is one of those books that I think would make a really good tv show.
