A spooky little folk tale

I love a retelling of an old story, and this is an excellent reworking of an urban legend we have probably all heard.

I am learning that haunted houses and ghosts are not really my thing, but this was written in such a way that the reader can choose to believe in the ghosts or not, which I appreciate.

The main character was likable enough. I found the romance element a bit sudden and confusing (unless you can ascribe it to the lineage). The mysterious locals with their buried secrets were interesting enough.

The creepy elements were not so creepy that someone who isn't sure they like thrillers or horror couldn't handle it. In some ways, this reads more as a middle grade novel than young adult, which was fine for me.

The climax was a bit much, and the resolution a bit abrupt.

In all, I found the writing very good and easy to read, even if some of the teen dialogue seemed a little overly mature.

For the right audience, this is a fun read with just enough creep factor.
