I was surprisingly hooked!
To be honest, I hadn't really expected much. While I enjoy reading horror, a YA horror didn't seem to be very interesting. While there was definitely a fair share of angst and #overwhelmingemotion, the prose really sucked me in. The delightfully mysterious home and family history, an odd little town with peculiar characters, and a protagonist that is likeable despite her conflicting emotions really sold it for me.
I'm torn on the cover. At first glimpse, the bonnet-wearing skull feels more kitsch than creepy, but I also feel it fits the tone of the book. There's more of a mysterious aire rather than outright horror, and I think that cover image kinda sums that up nicely. Overall, I'm excited to see how the rest of the book plays out!
