The story starts a bit slow, building the backstory of why Evie and her family are moving into Hobbie House. We get impressions of creepy in the form of random shadows, the instant shock and horror from the townspeople that someone is living in "Horror House", a feral cat in a closet, etc.
From the first look, it feels like a cross between an episode of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and a "Goosebumps" story. I'm not a huge fan of the cover, the concept is fine, but it's just not something that would draw me in. Maybe if it was a bit more vibrant? There are also some weird formatting issues with the text, letters missing, odd spacing, etc.
