I liked the way the book started straight in with the description of the finding of the first body back in 1952. We then read about the discovery of a similar death, twenty years on. And finally we get to the present day, where Russ van Alstyne, who had been a suspect in the 1970s murder, gets to investigate a new killing. No doubt he will solve the earlier murders too, the previous investigations having apparently been incompetently handled.

I enjoyed the continuity with the previous books - Russ is still struggling to save the Millers Kill police force (to be honest as a Brit I’m surprised such a small town could have even one police officer), and Clare is worrying about her new baby and will no doubt be trying to look after her church and help solve the case too.

I was pleased to see Knox’s name mentioned - I’m intrigued to see how things worked out for her and Flynn.
