Rebekah Weatherspoon usually writes adult romance and with so many authors jumping age categories, I wasn't sure how she would fair jumping into the YA space as it's much more toned down than her usual work but I thought this one was really cute, relatable and definitely for the teens. Fake dating is a little overdone lately with few books being able to pull it off but this made it not awkward. The romance didn't feel too insta-lovey and the characters were their own fully realized people outside of it without their personal life struggles dimming the shine of their relationship. It's always great to find a book with that type of balance. And I liked that it explored the characters prepping to go off to college and navigating their relationships with their parents. Sometimes that stuff is left out of YA contemporary lately so it was nice to read about.
