Rebekah Weatherspoon's first foray into young adult is a great one!! I have read several of her adult books and - while I was excited to read her YA take - I was interested to see how she handled a younger audience since her adult books are capital A adult. (And sometimes that transition is hard) but I loved the characters. The story was great - I was hooked from the start. Also - can we talk about the cover?? I love it so much. Like "see it at the bookstore and want to buy it even though I already have a copy on my bookshelves" love it. It's so vibrant and the characters actually look like how I pictured them in my head / on the page (which does not always happen and it always makes me frustrated when the main character is plus sized on the page and straight sized on the cover.) As always, Weatherspoon's heart and wit and ability to write characters you root for shines though.
