Absolutely loved Bethany and Jacob!
This book was absolutely incredible!
So let’s do something a little different by giving y’all FIVE reasons to read this book:
✨Refusing to give in to peer pressure - Bethany has never been kissed (is uncomfortable with physical touch) and Jacob wants to save his virginity for the right person/time.
✨Fake Dating trope - listen, I’m a sucker for fake dating, and I love that Bethany and Jacob make a pact with to learn how to date within a safe space for each other.
✨ Normalized queerness - several queer characters including Bethany’s moms (yes moms, that raised her)…implied aroace but not confirmed on page.
✨ BOUNDARIES - boundaries are a huge theme in this book, and it’s something that needs to be normalized and respected for everyone…including young people.
✨ Dismantling fatphobia! - Bethany is plus sized and loves to cook/eat, but constantly reminds her everyone (moms included) that being fat isn’t just what you eat. I also love that Jacob constantly reminds Bethany how beautiful she is, curves and all!
Thank you to Penguin Teen for providing a review copy. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.
