The first impression of Her Good Side reads like a wholesome after-school special (I'm dating myself here, but you don't have to be a teen to enjoy YA stories!). The characters come from a range of racial/ethnic backgrounds with different interests, strengths and talents from athletics to arts. There's a lot of things sprinkled throughout that make this feel very current (references to virtual school during the pandemic, easy use of they/them pronouns, parents who are influencers, etc.). And although there are references to sex and virginity, the characters seem to be comfortable with themselves, kind and open-minded and accepting of others and brave about being vulnerable. I'm not sure it's a realistic high school world, but I did enjoy myself for these 50ish pages.
