Writing seems rather stilted
I'm an avid reader of historical romance, especially those set in the Regency era. I've never heard of Madeline Hunter, so when I saw this GORGEOUS cover I was excited to potentially discover a new favorite. The cover reminds me a lot of Eva Leigh's My Fake Rake (which is an all-time favorite of mine).
Sadly, in the First Look the writing - especially the dialogue - seems extremely stilted. So much so that I thought maybe this was a debit novel, but I just peeked and nope, Madeline Hunter seems to have several Regency romances published. The Regency period was a time of manners and propriety, but that doesn't mean the language used in the writing needs to be stilted and stuff. Sadly, I don't think I'll be reading more of this one.
