Regency Read
I had an idea as to what I would find in here: a love story where 'enemies' (but truly just due to miscommunication and distrust and not hatred or actually hostility). The two main characters, Minerva and Chase, would be characters in a seemingly regency romance. I do not hate this genre, and every blue moon I find hidden gems.
The problem for me was that it seemed formulaic. Some dislike here and there, a dash of mistrust, and a sprinkle of reminding the reader how seductively handsome/beautiful and intriguing the characters are. I do not mind clichés as I have read stories that do them well, including Kasie West, and "The Neighbor from Hell." They are done 'well' as they: are done with some of the author's personality and not just what the reader may want to read (or perhaps they are, but I am unable to tell and enjoy it nonetheless), and the dialogue is not forced (the characters have some chemistry). I am sorry to say this, while having the possibility to have cute scenes later, will probably have more smutty ones and without heat, it seems anticlimactic.
