Heiress for Hire jumps right in with the action. The first scene to play out is Minerva with a gun on Chase, him just waking up from being knocked unconscious. So the book immediately grabbed my attention.
There is mystery. One of my first thoughts was "It's similar to Clue!" Who killed the Duke? Why did Minerva move away and change her name? Why is she (and Beth) so worried about anyone finding out about her past? But more than anything, did she do something to her husband? Is that why she ran away? More importantly, did she know the Duke, why would he leave her an inheritance, and did she have something to do with him falling to his death?
There is attraction between Minerva and Chase, so I am left wondering how long it will take before the romance sparks between these two. He seems hesitant to consider her a suspect.
One of the pros to reading excerpts is that we get to "try out" a book before we buy it. One of the cons? Once we read the excerpt and it catches our attention, we have to wait to get the book to find out what happens!!! I will be waiting for this one. I love a good mystery!
