From the beginning, there is a subtle difference between this book and many Victorian-style novels - and that is the dynamic between the leading lady and dashing gentleman. In so many books, there is a clash between the two that is worked through and ultimately overcome. The two are at odds with one another, fighting one another, and it is in that way that the author brings friction to the story.

Here, Minerva and Chase are not exactly enemies, but they're not quite on the same team, either. Their dynamic is not quite one of conflict, but one of suspicion. They are both cautious and curious about one another. Throughout the story, they are working, independently, towards the same goal: finding out what happened to the old Duke.

In this story, there is mystery, intrigue, fun, courage, suspense, and there will be romance. The pages are beautifully written. The reader finds themselves rooting for both Chase and Minerva, and hungering to read the next chapter to find out what comes next. I happily look forward to this book being printed so I can race to the store and grab the first available copy. I am dying to know what happens!
