Post-apocalyptic love story that grabs you from the start!
It's the end of the world. Mara is dead, or at least as dead as a zombie can be. With a new treatment, she's able to live a mostly normal life and is now a part of an experimental relocation program. She's sent to live with her best friend and her family, someone she hasn't seen since the world ended.
Rory is still alive, but she's not the same person she was the last time she and Mara saw each other. She's been forced to do things no 17-year-old should have to do and seen things no one should have to see. She's now living on an island in the hopes that the Ticks can't get to them, but she still fears they will attack any time. And with the experimental relocation program leaving several altered on the island, it's only a matter of time before something bad happens.
As the 2 struggle with their own feelings, they also have to fight to survive.
This book will grab you from the start. I love that while it's a post-apocalyptic world, we get to see a point of view that we rarely see, that of the zombie. This is also a love story like no other. It's full of action and suspense while the 2 main characters grapple with their feelings for each other and what it means since they are not the same people they were.
The ending was something I didn't see coming and it kept you on your toes right until the end. One spoiler, this is a happy ending, but it's still not really what I expected.
